The Indian Society of International Law sitt Advanced Diploma Course in International Environmental Law:
The Paris Agreement established a committee to promote implementation of and compliance with the provisions of the agreement (Paris Agreement Implementation and Compliance Committee – PAICC).
The first members of the committee were elected at the latest climate summit in Madrid, December 2019, and the committee met for the first time in 2020.
In this talk, Professor Voigt will give an overview over the committee’s roles and functions. Particular attention will be dedicated to the link to the transparency framework and how the compliance committee could enhance mutual trust and confidence between parties. She will also explain which measures and outcomes the committee is allowed to apply – and which issues would fall outside the committee’s mandate.
