Ny ILA-komité om misbruk av rettigheter / abuse of rights

Vår moderforening, International Law Association, har nylig opprettet en komité som skal studere misbruk av rettigheter («Abuse of rights»):

An Introductory Session for the ILA Committee on Abuse of Rights will take place online at 1pm (GMT) on 28th November 2024. The Co-Chairs and Rapporteur will introduce the work of the Committee and answer any questions members may have. Members wishing to participate and contribute to the work of this Committee are encouraged to attend this session.

Please be reminded that nominations to join the Committee should follow the usual process and the ILA Branch should complete the nomination form and submit a copy of the nominee’s CV to ILA HQ in advance of the next Executive Council (EC) in May 2025. Any previously submitted nominations have been held on file and will be put before the EC for consideration at their meeting in May 2025.

Legal Aspects of the NATO Membership

When Sweden acceded to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in March 2024, the Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs stated that the membership in the organization «is an epoch-making event for our country and entails a profound and immediate change in Sweden’s foreign-and security policy.» Please join us on November 26 for a discussion of legal aspects of the NATO membership, including issues of
collective self-defence in the Washington Treaty, developments in the domestic legal system, and defence cooperation.

Moderator:
Robert Egnell, Vice-Chancellor of the Swedish Defence University and Professor of Leadership and Command and Control.

Opening Address:
Jacob Westberg, Associate Professor in War Studies at the Swedish Defence University, on Idealism and Realism in Sweden’s Security Strategies Before and After the NATO Membership.

Speakers:

  • Jann Kleffner, Professor of International Law at the Swedish Defence University, will address implications for collective self-defence and article 5 of theWashington Treaty;
  • Pål Wrange, Professor of International Law at Stockholm University and Director of SCILJ, will address the Defence Cooperation Agreement between Sweden and the United States; and
  • Marika Ericson, Head of the Department of International and Operational Law at the Swedish Defence University, will address developments in the domestic legal system.

The discussion will be followed by Q&A.
